Experience

We've operated an air service in Homer since 1967. Bill soloed in 1951, and has been flying seaplanes commercially since 1961. He has flown more than 20,000 hours, the majority of it in Kachemak Air seaplanes in and around Homer, Kachemak Bay, Cook Inlet, the Kenai Peninsula, and Alaska.

Our 1929 Travel Air is the perfect aircraft for sightseeing. Literally in better than new condition (thanks to modern materials used during a recent restoration), it's an exquisite piece of Alaskan and aviation history--and the only one operating on floats anywhere in world. We even performed the marriage of our friends Tom and Kate standing on the floats on a wilderness lake.

The Otter and the Beaver aircraft we used to operate were the best in the business. Rugged and dependable, they had the capacity to carry huge legal loads into very small places when necessary.

We want you to have the experience you desire, but remember the Alaskan weather and terrain, based on our experience, will sometime require your patience. Your safety is always our first concern.

With a variety of airplanes, we operated an Air Carrier Certificate, Part 135, registered with the Civil Aeronautics Board, from 1967 until September 2007. ÊIn September 2007 we went to Part 91, with a Letter of Authorization from the FAA and comntinue to offer sightseeing flights in our Travel Air over the glaciers and mountains of Kachemak Bay. ÊWe have resumed using our former name, Kachemak AirÊService, Inc.
